Body-conscious dressing has propelled fashion's focus firmly onto the waist this season. But we can take comfort from the fact that designers are giving us some help in the shape of deep, waist cinching corset belts.
Dolce & Gabbana has virtually built its house on the timeless appeal of the corset and a resolute campaign for a sexy hourglass figure. There is no mistaking the scene-stealing accessory at the Italian duo's autumn show - their deep belts in glossy metals encircled crinkly bustier dresses in silver or gold and bell-sleeved sheer black lace gowns fit for futuristic vamps; they also used this key item to give shape to matt black cashmere and leopard-print coats. Design director Christopher Bailey added to this tough accessories armoury with triple-buckle black corset belts, which were tied around black fur military coats or fine charcoal sweater dresses at the Burberry prorsum show. Most alluring of all are Alexander McQueen's supple cinching corset belts in leather or matt aligator. Follow his lead and wear them around sheared fur coats or soft knitted dresses for a sexy silhouette.
